We demonstrated the latest version of our live streaming studio rig at the CBA Conference at Lakewood High School. Vanessa Quintana was gracious enough to sit in with Braden and Drew as they explained how it all works and what more it can do.

Beyond the Stage Episode 5 – Professional Music Educator Sean Marquis

At the Colorado Bandmaster’s Conference on July 16, 2021 Drew had the pleasure to sit down with Professional Music Educator Sean Marquis. Sean teaches band at Frontier Academy in Greeley, Colorado. This conversation occurred in the cafeteria of Lakewood High School during the lunch break while we were demonstrating the livestreaming rig at our booth.

We explored many topics relating to the challenges not only music educators but educators in general are facing with the state of the world as we prepare for the new school year. We discussed the lack of answers we had (and still have) for dealing with a global crisis, the technological inequality facing some student demographics, what together means, and how music education impacts us and teaches us to be human.

We have two new faces here at the store, Juliet Huskey and Michael Mawle.

Juliet is originally from Arizona and graduated the University of Arizona with a degree in linguistics. She comes to us with extensive customer service experience and is currently learning piano.

Michael recently graduated from Bowling Green State University with his Master’s Degree in Violin Performance. He is originally from Fort Collins and studied violin at UNC. He has been playing violin since he was 3 years old and even purchased his first violins from Boomer Music.

“…Sophomore year in high school I was your typical hotshot trumpet player.  Higher, louder, and faster was good, better, and best and I knew I was destined for greatness.  We had a small regional band festival for southeastern Massachusetts that was by audition, and I knew my place in the trumpet section was guaranteed.  When the results for seating at the festival came in, I confidently walked into my band director’s office to see what chair I got.

“Sorry, old bean” he said, “you didn’t make it.”

I was devastated.  I had fallen into the trap of being overconfident and underprepared and was now reaping what I had sowed.  Adding insult to injury I now had to explain to my friends that I would not be joining them at the festival…”
